Community Support

SMBI Listeners Inc. helps to support our community in a number of ways.

Russell Island

SMBI Listeners Inc. has partnered with a number of Clubs and Coffee Shops to enable the safe collection of cash donations for the families affected by the Russell Island house fire on the morning of 6 Aug, 2023.

A GoFundMe has also been set up to collect donations on behalf of the families involved to pay out towards the funeral expenses, and any remaining money will be disbursed to the families directly. The link to this is: https://GoFund.Me/c317432e

House Fire

SMBI Listeners Inc. has partnered with Willow & Oak Cafe & Kitchen, Bay Islands Community Services Inc., Companion Line, Macleay Island Community Church and Adele the Barber to bring the community together for a meal, thanks to the valuable donation of a Defibrillator by Wayne and Tammy, resulting in some funds to provide this community meal.

SMBI Listeners Inc. has partnered with the Redlands Integrated Early Years Place, Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service, SMBI Early Years Network, Brisbane South PHN, The Benevolent Society, First Five Forever, Macleay Island Community Library, and Q Shelter, to bring the joy of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to children across SMBI. As part of the SMBI Listeners Birthday Club, each family is given the opportunity to sign up to this amazing service.

Part of each month’s Birthday Club winner’s pack includes an amazing cake made by The Midnite Baker, sponsored by SMBI Listeners Inc. as well as a book bundle to further encourage reading skills.

SMBI Listeners Inc. works closely with various partners to assist community members in need of emergency relief in the form of food and other necessary items.

We collaborate with ADRA Russell Island, Bay Islands Community Services Inc., BMaD – Bikers Making a Difference, Footprints Community, Night Ninjas, Q Shelter, Redland Community Centre, Star Community Services, Wellways Carer Gateway and other partners to help ensure those in need in our community are able to to have food and other necessary items to support themselves and their family.

SMBI Listeners Inc. has partnered with the Salvation Army for a number of years to bring Christmas Hampers to First Nations and other families in need across SMBI.

In 2022 we also worked with Logan Together and Lighthouse Care to be able to increase our reach to SMBI families and children.

We are looking towards increasing this cooperation throughout and beyond 2023.
